There is strict scrutiny concerning sustainability. LEAF Marque certification, of British origin, is obtained by companies who do business in accordance with strict sustainable farming practices. Veracruz now adds this further award to its list of certifications: Global.G.A.P (GGN: 4063061907080), SPRING and Integrated Production.
The certification that the company has obtained assesses factors such as organisation and planning, crop health and protection, soil management and fertility, water management, energy efficiency, and landscape and nature preservation, among others. It also helps to lead to a reduction in environmental impacts, the promotion of biodiversity and an overall improvement to the company’s resources. The end goal is to have prosperous farming combined with a positive impact on the environment and the surrounding local communities.
Andreia Barbosa, Commercial, Human Resources and Marketing Director of Veracruz, explains the scope of this challenge: “LEAF recognises best farming practices and is very strict with regard to sustainability, which is also why it was important for Veracruz to achieve it. Production with a purpose, combining technology with sustainability every day, is one of our missions.”
